About The Harlem Globetrotters

The Harlem Globetrotters are a team of basketball players that combine raw talent and entertainment to bring a family-friendly show to arenas and gyms across the country and the world. Abe Saperstein founded The Harlem Globetrotters in 1926. Since then, the team has played in over one hundred countries and territories. The Globetrotters won their first World Basketball Championship in 1940. In the late '40s, the team defeated the World Champion Minneapolis Lakers twice to prove that African American basketball players could excel on a professional basketball level. The Globetrotters helped move forward the formation of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1946. Globetrotter Nathaniel "Sweetwater" Clifton was the first African-American to sign a NBA contract. He joined the New York Knicks in 1950. In the '70s and '80s, The Harlem Globetrotters CBS cartoon helped propel their popularity. In the '90s, former Globetrotter Mannie Jackson purchased the team and excelled in creating a larger roster and revenue in just a few years. As the new millennium broke, old records were broken, too. Michael "Wild Thing" Wilson set a record for his twelve-foot dunk in 2000. This records stands to current day and is one of twelve world records that the team holds. The team was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. During the 2017 tour, the team debuted the first-ever four-point line. The Harlem Globetrotters continue to entertain all these decades later. Get The Harlem Globetrotters tickets here at Ticket Galaxy, and enjoy the family-friendly, fun show for their 2018 tour!
