'The Humans' is a play that won the 2016 Tony for Best Play. After premiering in Chicago in 2014, 'The Humans' began its off-Broadway run in 2015. In 2016, it moved to Broadway before closing in 2017. The U.S. National Tour began in late 2017, bringing 'The Humans' to theater lovers across the country. The play is about a family who gathers for Thanksgiving at daughter Brigid Blake and her boyfriend Richard's Manhattan apartment. Brigid's parents, Erik and Deirdre, travel from their home in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Aimee, the other Blake daughter, arrives, as well. Brigid is a musician, and Aimee is a lawyer. Erik's mother, the daughters' grandmother, Fiona "Momo" also attends. She suffers from Alzheimer's. Aimee struggles through a recent breakup with her girlfriend as well as the development of an intestinal issue. The Blake parents express their discontent that their daughters moved away from home, leaving behind their religious beliefs that are strong in the family. All of these life events, from illness to opinion to life decisions, contribute to issues that the family must face during Thanksgiving.
